Chief Hosts Conference Calls For Live-In Candidates

Chief Poetker hosted conference calls this weekend. This effort demonstrated why the Morningside Volunteer Fire Department (MVFD) is in high demand. The MVFD is working to increase the number of Live-In Candidates. By hosting conference calls, the MVFD allowed participants to explained why moving in now is important. All of the Candidates expressed why the MVFD is important to their career development program.

The Impact of Time

Each candidate indicated that time was of the essence. The call volume, the professional nature of the current members and the abundance of training opportunities impressed them. Frankly, due to perceived demand, each explained why they wanted their place in the organization reserved. Clearly, they wanted to get in before the rooms were taken.

Interview Panel

Subsequently, the Interview Panel members were delighted with the candidates. Candidates provided the panel with positive information concerning their career and how they wanted to improve their skills. Therefore, as a result of the interviews, we reserved their rooms. Consequently, one Candidate was so excited about taking advantage of the Live-In opportunity, he asked that he be given an opportunity to finish his paramedic class. He insisted we reserve his space for next September.

The Feedback

We were very surprised at the feedback. All really enjoyed having the conference calls. We learned communicating via email is no longer efficient. The demand to become a member of the MVFD was so great in the past email was a sufficient. With the modified Live-In requirements, provided for a select group of applicants, we needed to gain insight. Speaking to candidates via conference calls served that purpose as expected.

Future Conference Call Opportunities

We will run another round. We modified requirements because we want everyone to have a chance to get the training that is available. Not every State has the abundance of training classes the Maryland Fire Rescue Institute provides. So, if you want to be a Live-In and you need a little more training, fill out our application and we will contact you for an interview. Come Join Us!
