Morningside Remembers Firefighter Michael Patrick McCarthy

Today, September 12th, marks the 35th anniversary of the Line of Duty Death of Firefighter Michael Patrick McCarthy. While responding to a Box Alarm on Berkshire Drive in Company 32’s area, Michael was struck by Engine 27 while it was backing up and later died from injuries sustained. This accident brought about many changes in Prince George’s County, including the addition of a General Order stating the Officer in Charge must back up apparatus. The current Engine 27 is dedicated to Michael Patrick McCarthy, and members of Morningside honor his sacrifice daily.
